Pugwash, Nova Scotia was the location in 1957 of the first meeting called for by the Russell-Einstein Manifesto. After two years of calling that upcoming meeting the "Pugwash Conference," the subsequent organization—the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs—kept it as their name. In 1979, the first Student Pugwash conference was held, leading to the formation of Student Pugwash USA (that's us) and International Student/Young Pugwash.
Collectively, we're all known as "the Pugwash Movement."
